Brian McCann - $9,000,000 **2014 -- 30 YO** Buster Posey - $12,000,000 **2016 -- 29 YO** Jonathan Lucroy - $7,000,000 **2016 -- 30 YO**
Sal Perez (26)
2014 .260/.289/.692 17 HR 70 RBI 2015 .260/.280/.706 21 HR 70 RBI 2016 .247/.288/.725 22 HR 64 RBI
3-Yr Avg before re-sign: Perez: .256/.286/.708 20 HR 68 RBI McCann: .239/.307/.729 21 HR 66 RBI Lucroy: .286/.351/.803 15 HR 64 RBI -- missed 60 games in 2015 Posey: .305/.368/.833 18 HR 88 RBI
Offering just over what Lucroy got and just under what McCann received. There is A LOT of wear and tear even on 26 YO Sal Perez who regularly catches more than any other catcher in baseball in terms of innings caught as he does not play 1B to get partial days off like Posey and Lucroy or even DH like McCann if he is playing its behind the plate.
OFFER: 4-yrs @ $8,000,000 = $8,000,000 (2017NTC)(2020)

As Steve pointed out above, the comp to Montero should not be taken into comparison given comments in threads on other resigns this year.
This one is kind of tough because there are not a ton of Catcher re-signs to compare to. I also feel like the McCann re-sign was an overpay so that throws some more cloudiness into valuing this one. However, at age 26 and arguably equal stats to McCann over a 3 year average it doesn't feel right for an offer with 1 less year than McCann to be less than his contract. Given that I feel McCann was an overpay I would either need same offered annual value at 5 years or a match of McCann's annual value at 4 years.

Denial #1 If you notice Montero isn't listed but at least I still listed 3-4 C where Steve only used Quentin as his sole comp. So you feel McCann was overpaid but I need to match his overpay? Okay not sure that makes sense but then I guess that is what DBacks is saying in Belt vs Kipnis. No worries. We will see how it plays out I think Perez should get less than McCann based on McCann playing other pos than just C keeping him more fresh over a season as he can play 1B/DH as well as better OPB and OPS even if slightly.

Yes, Montero is no longer listed after the edit, which is good. I'm not defending any other re-sign attempts this year. I'm just pointing out in those threads were old resigns were used it was stated to not use re-signs previous to the rule change.
My point on the overpay is that McCann should have been around $8M and I feel like at age 26 Perez has more value than what McCann should have got at age 30. I don't feel like $9M for Perez is an overpay because I feel like he has more value today than McCann had at his resign. Thus, McCann was an overpay, but Perez is fair value.

Approve #1 In just trying to keep it simple I went to where we play our games and I looked at all hitters and I finally found Sal Perez, he was listed 174th. Since we just resigned a few batters and based on our league projections here is how they were ranked. The projection guys are a lot smarter than I am. 24 Freddie Freeman, 9.5M 25 Justin Turner, 8.5M 42 Eric Hosmer, 8.25M 51 Mark Trumbo, 8M 58 Buster Posey, 12M 108 Brandon Belt, 6.5M 174 Sal Perez, 8M

I think I'm in agreement with Braves on this one. While McCann probably had better stats than Perez, McCann had those stats while in his prime years whereas Perez is just entering his prime years. With that, I feel Perez warrants at the very least, a similar contract to McCann. I would need either one more year or $1M more, like Braves said

Lucroy and McCann are good comps production-wise, but I believe Lucroy got less money since he was coming off a really rough year when he re-signed. And a C approaching 30 coming off a year like that probably didn't look to favorable for the future. McCann was very similar to Perez leading up to his re-sign though, just older. So I agree that Perez should receive McCann money.
