Cardinals Trade:
Jason Motte ā RHP - $435,000 (2014)
Marlins Trade:
Jobduan Morales C/1B HOU (prospect) Charlie Lowell SP MIA (prospect) Scott Lyman SP MIA (prospect)
Cardinals accept. Moving an expiring contract in Motte. Not sure how good he will be or if he will be back at start of season, but even if he is normal Motte the Cardinals have a deep enough bullpen to do without him. Getting back three decent prospects is good here. Lowell has strong potential and was tried to get in the Jeff Sam. trade earlier and as long as he stays out of legal issues he might be something special. Morales is a C and that position is lacking in the cardinals system, so the potential that a 22 year old might be something decent is worth a look, even though his overall numbers are lack luster at best. Lyman was the final piece, his work had started to come around within the recent years posting a sub 4 era last year, he is also young. Overall this trade moves a piece that was expendable and brings in three youngsters that could help the team in a few years if things come together and work out.

Denied 0-1
Too much for a guy who is not a closer and coming off TJ surgery.

This would have been too much for me to pay for Motte but I don't believe it to be vetoable.

I don't think a non-closer coming off a serious injury and on his final year is worth 3 prospects.
Denied #3 (2-3).
Sorry guys.

I think using the term prospects for this player is a very loose term. If Motte was cleared to play and healthy then I would approve this easily. If Motte was signed through 2015 I would approve it. The issue is that Motte had the surgery during the season last year and recent TJS show that many times it takes more then one year to recover ( Luebke, Oviedo, Baker ) I seriously will be shocked if motte contributes anything this year
