Sending out John Means and eating an expensive contract to get a pick that I want along with a lower level prospect that I like quite a lot. I have boatloads of cap as well, so taking a gamble on Cookie bouncing back is worth the risk.

Carrasco is one of my favorite pitchers in real life. And I hope he recovers from his illness and returns to full strength. But there's too much risk in that profile for a team that expects to contend. I was the 2nd best team in the AL last year and on paper look like I can be around that level again this season. And risking so much cap on a guy returning from blood cancer just doesn't seem prudent.
When I look at this deal, it's not just Means coming back for the 1st and the cap dump, I am also getting James Paxton back. Because without this deal it's nearly impossible to fit Paxton's re-sign salary in my roster. Paxton should be a huge bargain on his re-sign deal.
Means is the pitching equivalent of a fat porn star. His stuff isn't that great. But he sequences it so well that he somehow outperforms what anyone ever expects from him. I'll be happy to down a couple beers before each of his starts and enjoy the ride.
Thanks for the easy deal James. I genuinely hope Cookie bounces back and you get value from him, because that would be great news for fans of the game.
