LA Angels Trade
RP - Jake Diekman - KC - $2,500,000 (2022)
RP - Tyler Matzek - ARI - $500,000 (2022)
RHP Triston McKenzie - (2026) - www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mckentr01.shtml
RHP Mason Thompson - prospect - www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thompma02.shtml
Cleveland trades -
C /LF - Eric Haase -$300,000 (2026)
RF/LF Clint Frazier $300,000 (2023) **I.L.**
2B/3B/SS- Luis Urias $300,000 (2024)
The Why -
This was a trade that I thought was dead, but we dusted it off and ended up making it work. I am gaining 2 Solid Relief Pitchers, that i will have control over next year. I am gaining a SP who has an incredibly high upside - but his middle name should be Wild Thing, which could lead to him going to bullpen or not being very useful. But I have always like the song Wild Thing and if you watched the movie Major League it is appropriate for Cleveland. Mason Thompson could be a sleeper so far when he has pitched in MLB he has been good, just hasn't pitched very often. Hopefully this changes with the trade to the Nationals. He is RP/SP listed on fantrax so I will be able to use him in the starter spot on fantrax to gain stats.
I am giving up Haase. I might end up regretting that. Catchers typically aren't productive fantasy players. Haase has been. Just like McKenzie no way to know if he will keep producing at this level and will he stay at catcher been playing DH and LF. Enough unknowns for me to be willing to move him. Frazier has teased me for a couple of years - productive but not playing - they play him not productive - currently on Rehab assignment for eye issue. Frazier could turn into superstar or could get limited playing time. Urias I really like, thought he had turned the corner and was getting a lot of playing time. Then the Brewers traded for Escobar which looks like is going to cut into his playing time, but who knows how it will pan out. I have several 2B/SS combination players on my roster.
So with all that being said I feel both teams are getting some players that have nice upside, but they all come with some risk. I feel for my team getting what could be a front line SP and a couple of solid RP makes my team better, and I think Mason Thompson could be a sleeper worth rolling the dice on.
