Old Contract: Felix Hernandez (SEA - SP).....$18,500,000 (2014)
New Contract offered: 5 years @ $12m/yr
Basing this offer off of the Kershaw and Scherzer re-signs as I think those are the closest comps among previous re-signs. Kershaw is better and younger at $14m. Scherzer at $12m has higher K/IP and Wins but is offset by being two years older; which makes his contract about right I believe.

While I had the chart out, I added Hernandez to it. I could make the case that Hernandez is better than any of these but he certainly has a lot of mileage on his arm compared to the other 4.
Added contracts for comparison: Max Scherzer $12,000,000 (2016 NTC) (2018) Adam Wainwright - $10,150,000 (2014 NTC)(2018) Jon Lester - $10,500,000 (2015NTC)(2018)
Career Stats: Wainwright: 119-66, 3.01 ERA, 1541.2 IP, 1306K, 1.162 WHIP Price: 86-51, 3.21 ERA, 1221.1 IP, 1147K, 1.142 WHIP Lester: 116-67, 3.58 ERA, 1596.0 IP, 1457K, 1.276 WHIP Scherzer: 91-50, 3.58ERA, 1239.1 IP, 1321K, 1.219 WHIP Hernandez: 125-92, 3.07ERA, 2060.2 IP, 1951K, 1.170 WHIP
Strikeouts per 9 innngs: Scherzer: 9.6 Price: 8.5 Hernandez: 8.5 Lester: 8.2 Wainwright: 7.6
Ages: Hernandez: 28 Price: 29 Scherzer: 30 Lester: 31 Wainwright: 33
Most Strikeouts Season: Price: 271 (2014) Scherzer: 252 (2014) Hernandez: 248 (2014) Lester: 225 (2009 & 2010) Wainwright: 219 (2013)

Mileage on pitching arms scares me. This seems fair given the future risk vs. historical performance.
