Ian Kennedy 9,250,000 (2016)
Rajai Davis 5,500,000 (2016)
Pat Light - Prospect
2017 TB 2nd Rd Pick
Rays Accept. Needed a Closer for the coming season after moving Wade Davis. Kimbrel will be a great fill for the season. ATL needed a SP so Kennedy was a good fit for them. He is also on a 1 year deal. Davis gives ATL OF depth for this year. Light and the draft pick are used to cover the difference between Kimbrel and Kennedy for the one season they are each signed for.

I have a couple other closing options besides Kimbrel and was not planning to resign him, so trying to get some value for him. Light will either make or break this trade for me.

Makes sense for all sides I think. Rays get one of the best and most consistent closers in the game, and at 27 years old is probably a re-sign. If he's not re-signed, then I think this trade will not make much sense after this year. As either Light or the 2nd rd pick is the most valuable piece after this year. But it makes sense for both teams, they both get what they need this year and have future options on both sides.

Interesting trade. Out of a bunch of rentals, Kimbrel is the best of the bunch. As Rays said, the prospect evens out the balance between the rentals
