Sounds good. But to be fair I brought this up way before Otani. Way back in FEB. and TB gets their fair share of top IFAs. I'd just rather have control year in and year out of this important aspect of building my teams depth. That's really what it's about to me.
But I do also think Otani specifically just being handed to someone is unfair. He's not really a prospect. He's a free agent that's going to sign a milb deal because of a weird rule change.

Not disagreeing. But age 23 isn't really a kid. Maybe we just need an age limit or something. Or add just the top 5 IFAs to the draft? At least then these prospects go to the teams that really need them.
Again, just my own thoughts and opinions. I get it if no one else wants to do it. Still don't think it's a fair way to handle elite and potentially team altering talent. Taking it out of the control of the GMs entirely.

I tend to favor Rays on this one. I don’t necessarily like how IFA are handled but if that’s the rule, then that’s the rule. Whatever. But if Otani really is signing a MiLB just as a formality to get around some rule and the team has no intention of him playing in the minors and just going straight to the Bigs, then I think he should be treated as a MLB FA. I don’t know the ins and outs of the Otani deal, but if that really is the case, an exception should be made here. And I have no intention on forking over that much FA money for him so I feel I’m pretty unbiased here.

I see the point, but it is hard to make exceptions, unless he can be declared in the FA pool if he is on the active roster of the ML team that signs him on Opening Day. However then he would be classified as an IFA that signed after our Majors FA period and he would exempt until the next year.
As for the current MiLB IFA rules, the rules in place now with the 25 age limit and the stricter cap level the playing field quite a bit more. Changing now would benefit the teams that blew out the cap in the prior periods more IMO.
While not perfect I like the system as it is.
As for the Braves issue when the Red Sox we’re punished last year, the kids that were released were assigned to the next team they signed with. They were less high profile, but that was the way it was treated. Most likely I would lose a guy I acquired from the Braves, so I am definitely biased, but fair is fair.

I didn't think those Red Sox players had played yet but can't recall have to look more into it. These are some odd times and make our job as TAB more complicated due to RL circumstances.

You may be correct on that one. Typically the July 1 sit out until the next season. That may have been the case.

I think IFA's that sign MiLB deals should be draft-able in the FYPD, DD, or separate IFA draft if one needs to be created. IFA's that sign MLB deals should continue to go in the FA pool. MiLB IFA's are the only players that are never available to any other team by draft or FA before being assigned to their current team which doesn't really make any sense IMO.
As for braves IRL cheating, not sure how to handle that one. I'd probably lean toward just revoking any trades made with those players and assign them to whoever they end up signing with later. If there are these types of cheating situations where players are made available again its usually not too far in the future, so there isn't too much to un-do if we make that a rule.

I was in a league that tried IFA in draft we scrapped it after 1 year. We now use what we call an opening day rule.
As for Braves specs who might be removed I don't think it's fair to undo past trades. Whole thing is unfortunate and making it hard on us to figure out what is most fair to all.

As for undoing the Braves IFAs, I say just leave them where they are, regardless of whether they were traded or not, too much work and sets a precedent. After the draft and the IFA signings, it should be done with and move on. If a draft pick were later reversed, or someone didn't sign or got hurt, we don't make later adjustments. I think we are overthinking this a bit.

www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/21506598/ex-atlanta-braves-gm-john-coppolella-placed-mlb-banned-list-team-loses-prospectsCould fix the whole thing by creating some process by which we each have control over our IFAs. I actually agree we should NOT go back and try to fix things in the Braves instance. But I also think we shouldn't use a system that just blankly hands top talent to teams based on real life financial situations and real life roster situations. And where cheating also occurs. Teams here benefit due to something that got multiple people banned and fired. And keep in mind, TB signed the #1 IFA last year. And they do go after guys. This isn't sour grapes lol. I brought this up a long time ago. I'd like to see us create a system for IFAs. One that doesn't tie up huge contracts to kids, but one that allows teams to compete for these players. I've even volunteered my time to manage such a process since some think it might be time consuming. I think there is a realistic way to go about this.

Guys signing milb deals go through a new process.
