I think Gio is probably ahead of Fister in the rotation if both are at their best, and if Gio's healthy, his upside is better than that of Fister's. Add that to the fact that Jordan Zimmermann probably gets moved at some point this year (or maybe even Strasburg), and that's gonna push Gio to the #3 slot in the rotation.
Based on the past 2 offers, this is probably on the low side of what it would take to retain him, but it's about what I think is fair for him based on his past and what the future could hold.

I think 8M would've been just about right, but I don't think it's worth denying over $500k difference.
