Reds would like to formally offer a contract to Mr. Aroldis Chapman.
Chapman is an elite closer who is one of the few relief pitchers you would think about trying to resign in a league like this. The move to New York both hurts and helps his cause in a crowded bullpen. He has a possible suspension looming for 2016 on him because of domestic abuse (although unknown for the most part). He is a great fantasy asset and am willing to frontload his contract.
Similar player: RP David Robertson $6,500,000 (2015 NTC) (2019) Closer for NYY/CWS
Because of the overall volatility of the closer position i do not like signing these guys to long term deals so I have made a decision to frontload the contract... Reds offer: RP Aroldis Chapman $10,000,000 (2016 NTC) (2018)
I am taking a possible hit for 2016 because of the looming suspension but Mr Chapman is that good and we would like for him to continue to lead our bullpen and team to consecutive World Series appearances.

Past Closers:
David Robertson - $6.5 Mil Glen Perkins - $6 Mil Fernando Rodney - $5 Mil
While Chapman is one of the best not sure he needs to be paid $3.5 mil more than the previously highest paid closer. I need to look into this more before I vote.

Veto #1
I think $10MM is too high for a closer. Personally, I'd look around the 7.5-8MM range.

Yeah after reviewing I do think he needs to be paid more than the other re-signed closers but $10 mil is too much.

Veto as well.
This may be the first veto for too much salary, but don't want to set an unreasonable standard that is going to throw the whole closer market out of whack. Closers are hard to come by, but $10m is too much IMO. Something like $8m seems about right.
