Veto #1.
He's an ace and needs to be compared to other ace re-signs.
Other top pitcher re-signs: Strasburg ($11.5M) Price ($11.5M) Lester ($10.5M) Felix ($12M) Darivsh ($12.5M) Kershaw ($14M) Scherzer ($12M)

Problem with Arrieta does one year make an ace? That is where the tough part comes from before last year he was anything but an "ace". I have to think this over.

Ya, another tough one with no exact comps. But to be fair he looked like an ace in 2014 as well. Only had 150IP in his first season with Cubs, but 2.5 ERA and K/9 of 9.6 is ace material. And then to follow it up with an even better, Cy Young winning season, I think he's just a late bloomer. Maybe he doesn't deserve $11-12M like some of these other guys, but $2-3M less seems too low to me. That's my thinking anyway.

Not sure you can ask him to pay Arrieta more than Cueto just got IMO.

There's a difference in years too though. If this was 5 years like Cueto's I'd discount for length. Since 4 years I'd expect more.

Anyway, I'm glad we have a TAB so this difference in opinions can all come to a consensus. Maybe I just value Arrieta more than others do.

One solid year makes you an ace? No one knew his name last year.

Veto #2
Hey has pitched almost 400 innings over the past two years of Cy Young winning level. I personally feel that Arrieta is less of a risk than Cueto and also has a higher upside going forward. He has been probably the best pitcher in baseball for over a year and half. Even if it is $10MM I think I need to see him in double digits.

Approval #1.
Another tough one here. Its just a unique situation. The last pitcher I remember coming from almost out of nowhere to win a Cy Young was RA Dickey. He hasn't lived up to that since. I'll go with the Cueto comp. Same age. Arrieta had the one better season but Cueto has had the better career.

Going to make the Padres or Yankees make the tough call here.

Yeah, I feel Arrieta should command top dollar, and should be getting $1.5M more at least
