Mitch Moreland, had a little trouble finding good comparisons for him. He is decent 1B, not a star or stud.
Mitch Moreland
Last 5 seasons averages Runs 46, HR 18, RBI 54, SB <1, Avg .258, OPS .761 (avg & ops career)
if I remove 2014 when he was hurt they improve a little
4 year averages (w/o 2014) Runs 53, HR 20, RBI 62, SB <1.
Looking at this years' resign the best comparable player I found in terms of stat and age is Neil Walker. They are both 30 years old, actually almost the same age by a few days.
5 year averages Runs 69, HRs 16, RBI 70, SB 5, Avg .272, OPS .769
Moreland has a couple more HRs, but Walker is clearly ahead in every other category, and plays 2B, so position scarcity gives Walker an additional advantage (see dynasty guru rankings by position below)
I didn't see any good comps from last year, but looking at the 2014 resigns I found Pablo Sandoval and Chase Headley. Headly was the same age as Mitch going into resign year, Pablo was a little younger at 27. I looked at each of their 5 year averages during their resigns, so these represent 2009-2013
Chase Headley Runs 67, HR 14, RBI 66, SB 13, avg .269 (career OPS is .747)
Pablo Sandoval Runs 61, HR 17, RBI 73, SB 2, avg .295 (career OPS is .791)
Again
Neil Walker Runs 69, HRs 16, RBI 70, SB 5, Avg .272, OPS .769
Mitch Moreland Runs 53, HR 20, RBI 62, SB 1, Avg .258, OPS .761
Based all categories and positions I feel Moreland lags behind these three a bit.
Looking at Dynasty Guru Positional Rankings for this year, for their position
Moreland is ranked #24
Walker is ranked #14
Pablo Sand is ranked #13 (2 seasons past resign)
Chase Headley is ranked #27 (2 seasons past resign)
Here are the contracts given through resign process
Walker $5,600,000 (4 years) this year
Chase Headley $6,000,000 (4 years) 2 years ago
Pablo Sandoval $6,500,000 (5 years, and he was 27yo) 2 years ago
Based on all that:
Rangers offer Mitch Moreland age 30, $5,250,000 (2016NTC) (2020) - willing to go the five years for a slightly lower AAS than Walker got. Again, Walker is the best comparison based on current market conditions (in this league)
