Waiver question - if someone wins a waiver claim, does that team have to put the player on their major league 25 man roster and then waive him if they want to move him to paid minors? OR can a team claim a player and directly put him paid minors?? Thanks Pete He would need to go on the winning team's 25 man roster. And then go through any normal method of demotion (waiver, waiver pass, rookie rule, etc). First of all, thanks for the dual (and consistent) responses!! So if I had a full roster and won a claim, I would have to move someone to create space for that waived player, right. Also, let's say I waive Matt Thornton (cause I did), and the White Sox had won the claim. Then in a week he waives him to his paid minors, I could potentially (re)claim him off waivers. I think both these scenarios are true, just want to confirm. I think the waiver rule could be updated to state that a claimed/won player must be placed on the winning team's 25 man roster. Maybe it is clear to others, but I wasn't sure. Thanks.

That's definitely a good thing to clarify for everyone. We'll look at getting that into the rules.
And yes both those scenarios are true. You'd need to clear roster space somehow for the newly claimed player. And you can place a claim on the player if the winning team waived them at any point.

Draft order. I wasn't an original member of this league, but have been here a few years now. Just curious, how were the annual FYP and DD draft orders determined and will they ever change?
Seems a bit unfair that some teams (mine included) always have their assigned picks at the bottom of every round. Seems like it should at least snake by rounds or reverse every other year.
And for the record, I am not a fan of doing it in reverse order of the standings, that just rewards teams for tanking.

Reverse order of standings is the only way to do it! Yes, teams can tank, but it would be impossible for new owners to build depth and a team if they happened to have mid or late picks to go with a junky roster.
I think the current setup is fine. It's good enough for MLB. And if an owner is patient enough to purposely tank for 5 or more real life years for draft picks then good luck to them. Especially in a baseball league where the top picks are no sure thing.
It happens in real MLB as well. As teams make the decision that they are no longer in the hunt they start playing younger players and testing out lineups, etc. it's a form of tanking, but it's really just admitting you are building for next year or beyond.

Ya the draft order is reverse order of the previous year's standings. So if you're consistently a winning team you're going to be near the end of each round every year. Every major IRL league does it this way, I'm not sure how else you would do it to try and keep things as fair as possible. Something like snake draft is also giving an extra advantage to winning teams, if the world series winner is getting last pick of the first round and first pick of the second round, that's arguably worth more than the 1st overall pick and the last pick of the second round. I don't see how that does anything to even things and help out losing teams. But please feel free to recommend any ideas or rule changes and we can always consider and vote on them.
As for tanking specifically, I have no problem with it. Personally I believe tanking is a viable option and strategy for some teams. Maybe even the only strategy for some depending on MLB roster value. If a tanking team is able to actually hit on all their draft picks, good for them. But draft picks (and young specs in general) are a crap shoot in most cases. Tanking and trying to build up a good farm system is definitely not a guaranteed successful strategy, just one strategy.
Also have to consider that there are so many specs outside the draft that teams own, or gain value later, or international signings etc. So getting good draft picks is really only a small piece of building a winning team. I think trading for specs is the bigger piece. But when trading for specs, a team kind of ends up tanking whether they want to or not. They're going to trade their good players that have value for good spec packages, so their MLB roster is going to suck. Not sure how there's any way around that for rebuilding teams.

Ya I do not see how we set-up the draft order for both changing unless they change in real life.

Just a heads up to TAB-my 2018 1st still shows as mine in the picks thread. It was dealt to DET in the Michael Fulmer deal.
Thanks.

Don't we need everyone to post their Opening Day rosters since the call up and send down rules go into effect Sunday? And anyone signed in the offseason has to be on there unless you pass them through waivers or waiver pass.
Seems like a decent number of teams with incomplete Fantrax rosters-some even inaccurate. And teams whose 2017 roster page isn't up to date.
Maybe we need to penalize teams that don't post a final roster after the offseason and before opening day?

We have never posted opening day rosters not a huge fan of it. I have sent out a PM asking teams to make sure they have matching rosters here and on fantrax.
Currently there is no rule that teams must have x # of players on roster probably something that needs to be looked into.

Hmm. Must have mixed this league up with another. Thought last year we had something about posting your final 25 man rosters for opening day so we had a final setting of who was moved where in the offseason. Thanks!

But it accomplishes the same thing if Fantrax and the board have to match. Have a feeling there are a few in violation of that right now

Death penalty? Lol. Don't need to do anything right now. I was just saying I think there are some that don't match. So something to pay attention to moving forward. All good.

Don't know if there is a thread where I can ask this question so I'll ask here:
Are these players property of SEA organization?
Emilio Pagan (SD) - drafted 2013 by SEA Chaz Roe (TB) - property of SEA on freeze date
Need confirmation. Thanks!
