Braves Send:
OF Ronald Acuna - Prospect RP AJ Minter - Prospect Franchy Cordero - Prospect 2016 2nd Rd FYPD Matt Barnes (BOS) RP - $300,000 (2020)
FOR
Jose Abreu (CWS) 1B - 17,000,000 (2017) Alex Gordon (KC) LF - 14,000,000 (2017)
Braves accept. Taking on quite a bit of salary, but I think Abreu will bounce back and is worth the risk for me as I attempt to compete in the near term. Acuna and Minter may hurt in the short and near term as they both seem to be on the right track, but I'm ok with the risk of them coming back to haunt me.

Rays agree. I have a logjam at 1B and Morrison is really hot right now. Finally playing the way I expected him to when I signed him as a free agent. Abreu not playing to the contract right now.
I am VERY excited to add Ronald Acuna to my system. He along with Starling Heredia are a pair of very young, but very exciting OF prospects. AJ Minter was a 2nd rd draft pick and is currently sporting a 0.00 ERA. I think he could be a Closer in the future. Franchy Cordero gives me some extra depth at SS in my system where I am going to need to get someone to develop as I have no long term options there. Matt Barnes is a guy that is only 25 and is pitching ok. Solid ERA, but struggles with walks. If he gets that under control he could be effective in late innings with this stuff. And I also am adding a draft pick for this year when I had traded all of mine away. I see some real value that can be had in the 2nd round and plus this year.
Not to mention that this deal opens me up for a TON of options in free agency next season.

My initial reaction to the trade was that it was a good one for the Braves. However, the more I look into it, the more I like it for the Rays. Abreu and Gordon are having disappointing seasons while playing with expensive contracts. Acuna is looking like he might be for real, and could be seen in top 100 prospect lists very soon. I'd give him a B-/B currently, but one with a lot of helium. Minter is looking good in his short professional career. I'd give him a C+/C. I am very confused about Rays acquisition for Cordero however. I remember Rays trading a SS because he had too many, and now says he needs to add another one? Even if he did want to add another SS, Cordero doesn't fit the bill as he moved from SS to the Outfield. I would give him C value. Barnes is uninteresting, but he's doing alright in the Majors, so that carries some value. I would say he's a C+. Finally, I would say the FYPD pick is a C+. So that's 1 B-/B, 3 C+'s and one C for 2 decent, but disappointing Major Leaguers. I think the Rays came out nicely with this and trading Acuna away could bite the Braves, but I can see Abreu and Gordon improving where this is a fair trade

Yeah. You are right that I traded away Jake Hager at SS. But I like Cordero more than Hager. That being said, after I posted that I actually found out that Cordero was moved to the OF which is actually even better for me as I like to add depth to my MiLB OF spots right now. Cordero wasn't a central piece to the trade. Obviously Acuna and Minter were the guys I really liked.
