Previous contract - $300,000 (2016) New offer - $5,000,000 (2017 NTC) (2021)
There were 3 SS resigns last year Escobar $5,000,000/3yrs Castro $5,600,000/4yrs Andrus $4,500,000/4yrs
Crawford isn't the SB threat of Escobar or Andrus, but he hits more HRs than them, so that cancels out in my view. Crawford is most similar to Castro, but is 4 years older.
Castro 2015 age 25 .265, 11 HRs, 69 RBIs, 547 ABs, 5 SB .275, 12 HRs, 84 RBIs, 553 ABs, 7 SB Crawford 2016 age 29
Taking into account the age difference and extra year length of contract compared to Castro I believe this is a fair offer.

This one is borderline for me. Castro is definitely the best SS comp available. Hanley Ramirez is the other SS not mentioned but he was more a 5-cat guy when re-signed so he should be higher than the rest IMO. So comparing Castro/Crawford numbers at the time of re-sign, Crawford is definitely outproducing what Castro was at that point. In the three years leading up to their re-sign, Crawford outproduced Castro in almost every category. Steals they were pretty even, and average was pretty even. But Crawford leads in most other categories.. and by a lot in some (like RBI/OBP). That said, Crawford is a couple years older than Castro was, this contract is a year longer, and this contract takes him through age 34, so I'll approve.

I think White Sox thoughts are spot on.
