Last Contact: $14,000,000 (2016)
Offer: 3 Years @ $6,000,000
$6,000,000 (2017 NTC) (2019)
Using OF re-sign comps from this year. JD Martinez $9M and Trumbo $8M, he is clearly older than both, coming off a down season and projected lower than each. Brandon Moss re-signed for $6M, I realize he is not nearly the same player but he is 3 yrs younger. Bautista will be almost 39 years old at the end of this deal and his best days are already behind him.
A past comp at a similar age would be Curtis Granderson, $7,500,000. Both the same age, Bautista is the better player but Granderson's deal was from when he was 3 years younger than he is now.

This may be a little low, Moss clearly doesn't have the track record of Bautista. Moss's best season probably isn't even in Bautista's top 5-7 seasons. But I'm ok with this because of the age and appearance of some delcine starting. Moss and Granderson were both 3 years younger when they re-signed and are decent comps. Granderson was coming off a rough season, but had two 40+ HR seasons in the two seasons before that, so makes sense he's a bit higher at $7.5M. Moss is a decent comp, younger but less recent production. You could see Bautista moving to DH at some point during this deal too which may decrease his value if that happens.

Not sure I totally understand the Bautista/Moss comp.
For 2016 (Bautista's down year) Fantrax ranked Bautista as the #56 outfielder. Moss was close at #60. However for 2017 Fantrax projects Bautista at #28 and Moss at #96. Also Fantrax project Bautista with 495 at bats in 2017 and only 376 for Moss. The lefthanded Moss is only projected to be the better half of a platoon situation whereas Bautista projects to be a full time player.
On the Granderson comp, it was 7.5M but it was for 4 years not 3. That contract covered Granderson's age 33, 34, 35 & 36 seasons. A 3 year deal for Bautista will cover his age 36, 37 & 38 seasons. Also when Granderson was resigned here prior to the 2014 season, he was coming off a down season of 61 games played, .229 avg, 7 hr, 15 rbi.
I understand the age concern which is why the 3 year deal makes sense versus the 4 or 5 years. However as a projected full time player, I see him closer to Granderson than I do to Moss.
