Pending approvals, the Rangers and Padres have agreed to the following deal

Padres trade:
1B/3B Ty France (Prospect - SD)
2.27 2017 FYPD
3.27 2017 FYPD

Rangers trade:
C Welington Castillo $300,000 (2017)
3.23 2017 FYPD

All picks are for the upcoming FYPD. For me I have two catchers in Castillo and Gattis, so picking up the draft pick and a minor leaguer for starting MLB catcher I am not currently using. Swapping the third rounds gives a little value back to the Padres.

Padres accept. Mike Zunino has been awful this year, so I have really been needing a catcher, and I feel Castillo is a perfect stopgap while my catching prospects Tom Murphy and Chance Sisco develop. I wanted to move up slightly in the third round, so I gave this proposition to Rangers. As for France, there were a few guys that Rangers had his eye on and France was ultimately the one I was most comfortable giving up (in large part because I did not know who he was until Rangers solicited his interest). I would also like to thank Rangers for the quick and easy negotiations
