Giants Send LF Jake Marisnick (HOU) - $300,000 (2019)
Marlins Send: OF Alejandro De Aza (NYM) - $8.25M (2017) P Humberto Mejia
Giants Accept
Marlins needed to dump some contract and needed a LF. Marisnick has been posting respectable numbers and his defense will play even if it is somewhere else.
On the back end I get Mejia who is kind of far away as he's only 20 but has some projection left and decent upside.
Thanks for the trade Marlins

Marlins accept. As Giants said, I need to move money. Can't even afford to call anyone up right now. Marisnick gives me a serviceable option in the OF.

I don't really like this trade for Giants. It seems like Marlins is able to dump De Aza without having to pay any premium to do so. Granted, Giants can afford to take on one year of De Aza, but as Marlins really needed to clear his salary, I think Giants should have received something more for the favor he is doing for Marlins. Even if you take De Aza out of the trade, I still think Marlins wins this trade as Marisnick is at least a serviceable outfielder. Personally, I would prefer Marisnick over Mejia, but at the same time, Marisnick's k% is close to 40% (!) with a BABIP near .400, so he is almost certainly due for some regression. Thus, I can see why somebody else would prefer Mejia over Marisnick, and I do think they are pretty close. Overall, I say that Marlins wins the trade due to my preference of players, but I can also see how somebody else can prefer Mejia enough where the dead salary is enough to cover the difference between Marisnick and Mejia
