San Francisco trades C Willson Contreras (CHC) - $300,000 (2021) LF Mallex Smith (TB) - $300,000 (2021)
Seattle trades Fernando Tatis Jr (SD) 2017 1st round FYPD 2017 Dispersal Draft Pick Ke'Bryan Hayes (PIT) P Gavin Floyd $3,000,000 (2017) - salary dump for just this year RP Eric O'flaherty $2,000,000 (2017) - salary dump for just this year
The Why - I am still competing this year and getting Contreras should give me my catcher of the future and Smith since coming back up has been producing and he should get me some SB - giving up a 1st round pick, Dispersal pick and Tatis Jr who is killing it in minors hurts - Hayes I do have some minor league depth at 3rd but he is still a top 10 3rd by MLB.com - Floyd and O'Flaherty give me a little cap breathing room for this year both have expiring contracts
How they were acquired Willson Contreras - June 2016 Dispersal Draft Mallex Smith - acquired in trade with Padres 1/7/2017 Fernando Tatis Jr - acquired 2/2/2017 from White Sox Ke'Bryan Hayes - acquired 2/4/2017 from Rays Gavin Floyd - signed FA Feb 28,2014 Eric O'flaherty - signed FA Feb 28,2014 Picks belong to Seattle
Giants thanks for trade and good luck on rebuild

Giants Accept
I've been getting a lot of interest over Contreras over the last year, and nothing quite felt right to pull the trigger on giving him up til this point, losing Mallex hurts as well but I'm very deep in the OF and I have some minor league coverage at C so I feel comfortable making this move.
I pick up Tatis who was a fringe top 100 guy before this year and is crushing it right now, even with his K rate I finally have a legit MI prospect that is helium rn. Couple that with Hayes who should be a stable source of production at 3B which is another weak position of mine.
Plus acquiring draft assets is always a good thing especially now that my last legit big league asset is gone.
Thanks again to Mariners for the trade, GL with your season.

While the neither of the guys Giants are giving up are studs, they are still solid young players who have essentially proven their worth in the Majors. Contreras probably won't ever produce eye-popping numbers, but he still gives solid production at the catchers role, which is very valuable indeed. I'd say he has B+/A- value. On the other hand, Smith is purely a 2-3 category guy, who has a lot riding on his hit tool. His hit tool is looking pretty good right now, but if he is unable to keep up with his current pace, then a lot of his value is taken away. Even so, he will provide a lot of speed and will be a good source of SB's regardless of how well he hits. Depending on how you believe in his hit tool, I would say he has B+ or B+/B value.
In return, the Giants are adding more assets to their farm system. First off, you have Tatis Jr., who has been tearing up the Midwest League while being the same age as a draft pick out of high school. Keith Law just ranked him at #15, Baseball America ranked him at #101, Baseball Prospectus ranked him at #22 and Faketeams did not rank him in their top 100. With that, there seems to be a wide discrepancy of opinion on him. I'll say he has B value? Fortunately, the next few assets are easier to value. At 26th overall, it looks like the Mariners 1st round FYPD pick has B- value. His dispersal pick will also be around 26, which I say has C value. Finally, Ke'Bryan Hayes was rated as a B/B- going into the season. He actually boasts a pretty similar profile to Smith, but his hit tool doesn't seem to be reaching the level that Smith has shown previously. Currently, I say he has B- value. Lastly, I don't think the cap dumps are that big of a deal, but it's still something that needs to be accounted for as it helps the Mariners and I say that has C value.
With that, we can begin by cancelling out the cap dumps and the dispersal pick. Next, we can essentially cancel out the values between Smith and Tatis Jr. Finally, we have two B-'s for Contreras, a B+/A-. I certainly think that's reasonable and while you could argue it might be a little light, it certainly wouldn't be unanimously unbalanced and looks close enough in my eyes

At first glance, I think this is really underselling Smith and Contreras. I'd think guys performing on long, cheap contracts are the type you'd want to keep and build around in the meantime. Especially if Smith's advances this year are legit. But I can also agree with some of Padres valuations, so it's probably not lopsided enough to veto.
