Mariners trade 2017 3rd FYPD
Rays trade Hector Rondon $300,000 (2018)
The why Right now I am a RP short on my roster - Rondon will get me some stats instead of nothing, but he is behind 3 other pitchers for holds - so his stats will be modest and he has been up and down this year - but he will produce some and who knows with Maddon he might fall back in love with him - so I feel it is worth a 3rd round pick, to roll the dice with him
how they were acquired Hector Rondon acquired in trade 5/12/2017 with Indians

I like Rondon, but he's been inconsistent and he is on the back end of my pen. Plus Britton has returned and hopefully Rubby gets back soon. I'll take my chances on adding a solid prospect.

While I did say Rondon was a B-/B when he was traded last time, I don't think that's the case anymore as his rate stats have worsened, and he has not acquired a single hold in the past two months (which actually occurred very close to when he was traded), to the point now he's an uninteresting middle reliever. He still has good potential, and his k/9 is at a career high and his BAA his one point away from his career low, but the fact of the matter is that is role has diminished significantly. I still think this trade heavily favors the Mariners and if this were a few months ago, I would have vetoed it, but given Rondon's questionable role, I suppose a late round draft pick, which I think has C+/C value isn't completely imbalanced at this point
