Braves Send: Kyle Gibson (MIN) SP $300,000 (2018) Shawn Kelley (WAS) RP $3,100,000 (2019)
Red Sox Send: Duane Underwood, RHP, CHC Bubba Starling, OF, KC
Braves accept. Kelley was pretty terrible last year, but has been good the years before. Gibson closed out the year well, but struggled earlier in the year. I have some younger relievers to replace Kelley and Gibson won't make or break my SP so I think Underwood and Starling are a good return for some shorter contract Major League talent.

I will start with the prospects given up by the Red Sox: both of them have had better days, but do provide some value, in hopes of that they bounce back if nothing else. Underwood has struggled to get over the hump of AA. He's shown some promise, but I can't say he looks any better than a C/C+. Starling is even more interesting than Underwood, given he was a top-5 draft pick. In that time, he's only been able to have a WRC+ above 100 beyond A+ once, despite being older than the likes of Jose Ramirez, Francisco Lindor, Corey Seager and Mookie Betts. Time is running out on him, and he hasn't shown any standout skills where I can't say he's any more than a C at this point.
In return, Red Sox is receiving two guys who have struggled, but at least they did so since they reached the Majors. First, Gibson has been roughly an average SP in the past, but has been decisively bad the past two years (interestingly enough, he's posted the same ERA and fWAR). Between injury risk and interesting arms in the minors, I don't like the odds of him pitching a full season in the rotation. Nevertheless, someone that can log innings like him for a year is probably worth a C+/C. Like Gibson, Kelley has had better days in the past. On one hand, his better days were better, and more recent. On the other hand, his worse days are much worse and he's entering his age-34 season. Considering his contract, I would probably say he has negative C value. Of course, salary shouldn't be too much of a concern for Red Sox where he can take risky guys like Kelley, though I'm not sure if he should be aiming for set-up men, rather than someone that has better upside
Overall, I like the Braves side better, especially considering that the upside going to him is much greater than what the Red Sox are receiving. But, guys like Gibson who will get innings have value and while the prospects the Red Sox are sending once were very intriguing, their shine as vastly faded where this trade is reasonable
