Tampa sends: 3B/SS Eduardo Escobar 4,000,000(2021) C Luke Maile 300,000(2021)
LAD sends: SS JP Crawford-prospect (2023) SP Logan Shore prospect
TB agrees. I’ve got SS and 3b covered plus I have some great options at Utility so I wanted to build up some prospect depth. Crawford is a former top 5 overall prospect just a year ago. He has really struggled with his bat, but he has time to figure it out. And I always liked Shore. I drafted him and traded him to LAD so very happy to get him back. Maile has been playing great as a backup C and is getting solid time. Crawford was acquired via trade by LAD. Escobar was signed in FA this year. Maile was verified when called up last year.

While Escobar was meddling as an average/below average player for the past few years, it seems that he has found a new gear that has allowed him to be the best hitter on his team, where he is decisively above average (for example, his offensive score on Fangraphs is close to guys like Carlos Correa, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez. I think his breakout is mostly legitimate, but I don't know if he should be expected to post these numbers for the rest of his contract. Regardless, I would give him B-/B value with the production he is showing, especially with the position premium he offers. Maile is another guy that is pleasantly surprising in his offensive production at while playing a premium position. Of course, I don't think his production is as sustainable, considering his modest .477 BABIP. As such, my best expectations for him are to produce slightly below average offensive results for a catcher, so I consider him to have C+/B- value
Unlike Escobar and Maile, Crawford's offensive production has proven to be nothing but disappointing. I don't think he will can be any better than an average offensive shortstop. Of course, he as the age advantage that Escobar and Maile don't have, as well as more years and strong glove that should give him reliable playing time. I'd probably say he has B/B- value. Lastly, Shore has certainly impressed thus far in 2018 while repeating A+ and having slight injury issues. I would give him C+/B- value
With this trade being a B-/B & C+/B- for a B/B- & C+/B-, it seems to be very close and I can easily understand any argument that grants more value to some of the players involved
