When Isaiah first contacted me about trading for La Stella, I kind of balked at giving up 4+ years of control and and 6 years of age difference seemed a little much, but the more I thought about it, it made sense. I only have 1 re-sign currently and it expires after next year. Most teams wouldn't be in a position to take the risk on a La Stella re-sign but I think he's played his way into the conversation. He changed his swing and didn't sacrifice his approach, in fact he's Striking out less. Even if he doesn't continue on his current pace, the old La Stella profile hitting on top of an order regularly with improved pop is a good asset and an upgrade at 2 positions. Additonally if I do re-sign, his contract would expire before I'd really need the slot.
The rest are all kind of buy lows. Canha slots into CF for the short term and hopefully can get 15 more appearances this year. Even if he doesn't his walk rate has taken a big leap, and he's striking out less and even with an abysmal Babip he's having his best year. Duvall comes back after selling high so I can buy really low. He's playing well in AAA and last years numbers indicated a fair amount of bad luck and I'm not really paying anything to take the chance. Reyes got stuck on Detroits ML roster after being Rule 5'd but the Tigers kept him on the main roster the entire year so it shows that at least they haven't given up on him. He's a tall and athletic and it looks like some of his power is finally developing. I'm hoping that it really was just a year too early for Reyes. He's still young and hopefully better prepared. Bacon is just to get some more minors pitching depth. He's undersized with a decent fastball and a good breaking ball, but he's undersized and a reliever but he's on the right track. Plus his name is Bacon.
Thanks to Isaiah for the trade, gl.
