Orioles Send:
SP Zach Davies $300,000 (2021) RP Mychal Givens $300,000 (2021)
White Sox Send:
CF Manuel Margot $300,000 (2022) Konnor Pilkington - prospect
Orioles accept.
As noted in my prior trades, I am not likely to be a solid contender now or next season. Davies might be useful for contention in 2021, but his profile is not part of my personal preference for SPs and he's not a likely resign candidate for me. This trade give me a shot at a potential lottery ticket in Margot if he figures out his swing a bit who better fits my contention window. Pilkington is a decent lower end arm who could end up a reasonable back end SP for me later on down the line.

Margot is the definition of a post hype guy at this point, and the last couple weeks he is starting to look like he may have things figured out. But with Alonso at 1B pushing Gallo into the outfield, and with Ketel Marte available in CF in addition to his middle infield duties, Margot just isn't seeing much playing time for me this year and next.
I reached out to James about Davies. His peripherals aren't that great, but he's on a team winning a decent number of games and playing in a division that isn't exactly full of stalwarts. I'm hopeful he can score a few key Ws for me in the playoffs if I get there (and help me in the meantime with that all important "getting there" part). I've also been dealing with a spate of injuries in my pitching staff, and though I am loathe to rely on any Oriole for pitching help, I am willing to hold my nose and hope that his K rate holds while his ridiculous 24.2% HR/FB rate regresses to the mean a bit.
To grease the deal, I had to part with Pilkington. If I were in a rebuild I would want a slew of guys like him and hope some bloom. But right now I need stats in the big leagues, so away he goes.
Is it a terrible idea to trade 3.5 years of a young former stud spec hitter for 2.5 years of a SP and 2.5 years of an Oriole pitcher? Probably. But YOLO, right?
Thanks for the easy talks, James. Not our first deal, won't be our last.
