1st offer: $6.5M
Gio is coming off of a season where he still has an unresolved shoulder injury. The shoulder is troubling, but I still believe a 5 year investment is prudent(albeit dangerous). On top of this Gio is now the #5 starter in Washington.
Strasburg Zimmerman Scherzer Fister Gonzalez
Not many #5 starters get resigned, but Gio is really a #3 starter.
The Diamondbacks offer 5 years @ $7M= $35M

Thanks for providing all the info. It makes things much easier. #5 starters are worrisome in a way. They have a tendency to get skipped in the rotation on occasion. Not that you would think a pitcher like Gonzalez would get skipped but with those 4 arms in front of him, it wouldn't be surprising.

Denied #1.
I don't see the arm injury as unresolved or lingering thing - he missed a handful of starts but was back by June with no issues after and no history of injuries. $8m-ish still seems right to me.

Not sure the arm injury and 5th starter bring down his value that much. I would be much more comfortable at $8m as well.

After considering this heavily I think I am going to stick with my initial thoughts which was $7.5-$8.0. I just have a hard time believing that Gio is going to be skipped. I wouldn't be shocked to see a guy like Zimmerman be traded and Gio move up the pecking order from 5th to 4th.
While he did have a shoulder issue last year he did still make 27 reg season starts plus playoffs. Gio Gonzalez career avg 15 W 3.59 ERA 199 K (202 IP).
I hate to deny over $500,000 but I think I need $500,000 to $1,000,000 more.
DENIED #3 (2-3)
You have one more chance to re-sign him.
